Diffuser Three Ruled Legal

The FIA handed down their verdict in the Case of the Double-Decker Diffusers this morning, and surprisingly they got it right.  The FIA's International Court of Appeal released a statement that read:

"The FIA International Court of Appeal has decided to deny the appeals submitted against decisions numbered 16 to 24 taken by the Panel of the Stewards on 26 March at the 2009 Grand Prix of Australia and counting towards the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Based on the arguments heard and evidence before it, the Court has concluded that the Stewards were correct to find that the cars in question comply with the applicable regulations.

Full reasons for this decision will be provided in due course."

So status quo, everybody.  BrawnGP still rules the roost, Toyota and Williams get to keep their points, and now the frantic scramble to fit trick diffusers to the other 14 cars begins.  I've heard thru the grapevine that Renault will probably have theirs installed in time for the race, but nothing on the others.

More details later if events warrant.

Will wonders never cease?  First new cars and different drivers are the stars of the first two races, and then a sensible ruling from the Powers That Be.

YAY!

Again, that is what F1 is all about... innovation. Brawn is a genius. May they dominate the season!

Brawn had all of last year to tune their diffuser. A lot of the other teams (cough Ferrari cough) are starting from zero on this, so it'll be interesting to see how long before they can get it right.

It's nice that FIA made the decision this way. Definitely an unexpectedly pleasant surprise.

Looks like Cinderella's coach may have turned back into a pumpkin. McLaren has put an "interim diffuser" onto Hamilton's car, and he was faster today than Button.

Well, it was nice while it lasted, anyway.
