It's Music Meme Time Again

So over at Greyduck's place, it seems that he was tagged by another blogger with the following situation:

1. If you’d like to play along, reply to this post and I’ll assign you a letter.
2. You then list (and upload or link to the video, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Then, as I’m doing here, you’ll post the list to your journal with the instructions.

Of course, GD came through with flying colors.  Also of course, I couldn't resist a challenge of that sort so I requested a letter of my own.  Grey gave me "P".  Below, please find my five songs... and enjoy, won't you?

1) Pretender, Foo Fighters

There was once a time that I didn't like the Foos.  I thought that they were just riding on the coattails of Nirvana, and I never liked Nirvana.  They were... well, grungy, and I grew up listening to New Wave, which is about the farthest you could possibly be from grunge.  I still don't like Nirvana, but I was wrong about the Foos... they're much better than Nirvana ever was.
2) Poison Arrow, ABC

Speaking of New Wave, here's a perfect example of all that that style of music ever was.  ABC is still one of my favorite bands, and this is one of their biggest hits off their biggest album, The Lexicon of Love.  I could listen to that album over and over again, and never get bored.
3) Pompeii, ES Posthumus

I'm not sure anybody's ever figured out how to define ES Posthumus, a pure studio band.  They're not entirely rock, but they sure aren't classical.  Operatic Rock?  Close enough for me, and Pompeii was my first experience with them... but not the last.
4) Pop Muzik, M

1979 was a different time, my friends.  I still geek out when this tune comes on the instore play system at the Duck U. Bookstore... and everybody looks at me funny.  This was a Billboard Singles #1, back when that actually meant something.  For what it's worth, three of the members of M ended up as founding members of Level 42, a bit of trivia I didn't know until a few minutes ago.
5) Pulling Mussels From A Shell, Squeeze

There are bands that never get enough credit.  Squeeze is one of those, despite a number of hits.  Pulling Mussels was a minor hit in the UK that did nothing here in the US.  I honestly believe that their greatest hits CD, "Singles 45s and Under" should be in just about everybody's collection; it's just that good.

SPECIAL BONUS SONG:
6) Party Hard, Andrew WK (with Azumanga Daioh)

Hey, it's Azumanga Daioh... who needs a reason?

Wanna play?  Lemme know, I'll give you a letter!

1 That Party Hard video was great!  Was it from the actual show, or just a fortuitous mash-up?  I have never watched that anime, but now I'm intrigued...

4 Oh, very nice choices... pretty much my favorite Foos track, one of the best from Posthumus, and I didn't know that about Level 42 either.

I love the Foo's, def think Dave Grohl was the most talented one in Nirvana and deserves the sucess he's had (I just got the Them Crooked Vultures CD- a collaboration between Grohl and Josh Homme from QOSTA).

I have the Andrew WK song somewhere on CD too, was wondering what happend to him so just did a quick search- apparently has done a album of J-pop covers and Gundam songs!

Oh,  I'll play too!

7 Don, since you're a member of the Order of the Honorary Duck, I give you "H", for "honorary."  Enjoy!

Shawn (but not lowercase shawn), thanks for delurking!  In appreciation for your efforts, you get "D".

Andy, my non-F1-fan friend, you get tapped with "L" for Lotus, the team you saw unveil their car in a shopping mall in Malaysia.  In your case, though, I give you one additional rule: the first word in your titles cannot be "Love".  That'd be too easy.

I look forward to everybody's efforts!

8 Oh, Andy?  Andrew WK is also hosting a show called  Destroy Build Destroy that shows on the Cartoon Network over here.  His acting style could (charitably) be called "over the top."

Here's my list.

Also, thanks for the warning, I was having virus problems back then so it might have been a factor.
