What's On Your MP3 Player Now, Wonderduck?... still asked by nobody ever.

Caravan Palace - Black Betty

Apocalyptica w/ Till Lindemann - Helden

How this slipped past me all these years is entirely beyond me.  Apocalyptica is a heavy metal cello trio, and Till Lindemann is the lead singer of Rammstein... and the song is, of course, a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes".

Powerglove - Theme from X-Men

Okay, I had no expectations going into this.  But for whatever reason, when the theme proper kicked in, it took me right back to 1993 or 1994.  As far as I'm concerned, that show had the best characterizations of Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler ever put on the screen, big or small.  Yes, I'm a geek.

Starcadian - Chinatown

The last time I did one of these, Starcadian's "He^rt" was included... and the main reaction was "man, that video looked cheap."  Consider the looks improved, then!  I'm a sucker for the Blade Runner vibe it's got going on, but with much more vibrant colors.  And the song is just evilly catchy to boot.

Kraftwerk - Neon Lights

The year is 1984.  Yours truly is a mere fledgling, unwise to the way of the world as of yet.  To that duckling, Devo is the most exotic band in existence.  One long weekend during the winter, Momzerduck and that duckling hung out in a castle about 30 miles away from Duckford, rented by a group of friends.  Let me tell you, that castle was the single coolest place on the planet in 1984... I was particularly fond of the chapel, accessible only through a secret passageway hidden behind a bookcase in the library... but I digress.  A trip into the nearby town was made for foodstuffs, beverages, that sort of thing.  In the closest thing the town had to a shopping center was what I would (many years) later realize was a franchisee RadioShack store.  Which explained why it had a record section.  As the adults did their thing, the duckling flipped casually through the bargain album box... and stumbled upon a record with a stark red cover with four ghostly pale men upon it.  Intrigued, the young'un bought it, not knowing what it would sound like... and much of the rest is history.  In many ways, Kraftwerk is one of my favorite bands, but it's a very chilly favorite indeed.  I like the music quite a lot, and have owned six of their albums at one time or another, but I really have to be in a mood for them.  Except for "Neon Lights."  This track, I can listen to at any time.

Hanggai - ???

Mongolian folk metal?  My god, I love the internet... how else would we get exposed to Mongolian folk metal?   I gather that this is from a Chinese version of "The Voice" or whatever it's called.  The guy with the scarf in the latter half of the song is one of the celebrity judges, I think.  Can you imagine that here in our middle age, we're listening to Mongolian folk metal?  Or that I'd be blogging about bands from France, Finland, Australia, Brooklyn, Germany and Mongolia?  How insane is that?  I've said it many times before, but I frickin' love living in the future.

So that's some more stuff on my mp3 player.  Whatcha think?

1 The "Helden" track isn't my favorite from its album, but it is a neat little nugget. Apocalyptica as a band started as an interesting novelty, went through some cool developmental phases, and seems to have ended up as a parody of itself. Your mileage may vary but I actively can't stand their new line-up (okay, their new singer) outside of the one track from the latest album, "Cold Blood." Ah well.
