The More Things Change...

As you may remember, McLaren rolled out their new MP4-22 a few days ago. Today, they took it out on the track for it's first test, with Fernando Alonso behind the wheel.

The engine lasted one lap.

It'll be the best looking paperweight on the track.

2 Well, according to grandprix.com, the car was "billowing white smoke and losing oil." It could have been something minor, such as a connection that was shaken loose; an engine going at 19K rpm makes a LOT of vibration, not to mention the various G-loads that you can't really inflict that 'in the lab,' so to speak.

Or, of course, it could have been something major, like a cylinder letting go.

Likely we'll never know. McLaren (and all the big teams in general) don't particularly like to tell their opponents what problems they're having.

4 This will be a year that tests the mettle of ol' "nando". I think he may start out the year behind, equipment-wise. In that situation you can either prove yourself a legend, or fade into obscurity.
