Which Witch Is Which?

Over at the greatest duck-themed webcomic on the net, Quacked Panes, the Halloween duckies are out and about... including a witch duckie.

Meanwhile, over at Duck Show, the greatest duck-based website anywhere, a particular witch duckie is sited...

...and here at Wonderduck's Pond, I'm always happy to jump on a bandwagon.

Yep, it's Pockywitch!  Hopefully I'll be able to coax her away from her horde later... if I'm turned into a newt, you know what happened.

International Talk Like A Pirate Day 2010

Ahoy, maties!  T' Yan-Yan Pirates, sworn enemies o' those scurvy dogs, t' Pocky Ninjas, welcome ye t' International Talk Like A Pirate Day!  When they be comin' for your Yan-Yan, 'tis best you just run up t' white flag, fer a scruffier band of bilge rats don't exist anywhere on t' high seas!  They'll do bad things t' ye!  YARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Okay, they're not scruffy... they're rubber ducks, perhaps the least scruffy thing in the world.  And they won't do bad things to you; again, they're rubber ducks.  Rubber ducks just don't do "bad things."  At worst, they'll just sort of walk away with your Meiji sweets.  YARRRRR!

But the rivalry between the Pocky Ninjas and the Yan-Yan Pirates is legendary; you don't want to get betwixt the two sides.  Then bad things really WILL happen to you... very bad things.

Labor Day 2010

Thanks to the good folks at Firestone on Alpine for working on Labor Day.  The Duckmobile really needed those two new tires, and the alignment job, and the nearly half-inch of total toe adjustment.  It's nice to have a car that isn't fighting me for directional control again, and isn't making odd squealing noises, and has a modicum of traction in the wet!

Happy Labor Day, everbody!

Independence Day 2010!

Really, is there anything more American than the cookout with the family on the 4th of July?

Beautiful weather, great food (Mmmmm, yay grilled meats!), good conversation, big booms later... what more can one ask for?

Go out and enjoy yourself some America today.

Congrats Duck U Grads 2010!

The Commencement ceremony for Duck U. is this afternoon.  As an Alumnus of our fair school, this day always brings back interesting memories for me... which is why I don't much mind working on this Sunday.

Strangely enough, while I remember my grad ceremony, I don't remember walking across the stage, shaking the hand of the U's president and being handed my "diploma", then walking off the stage.  Everything right up to the moment, yes.  Everything afterwards, sure.  But the actual event?  Nuthin'.

The grads that decide not to march always confuse me.  Don't they realize that the ceremony isn't for them, but their families?  Ah well... still and all:  congratulations, ducklings!  Welcome to the big world!

The Flock

Once upon a time, there was... a rubber duck.  Its name was, and remains, Scooter The Wonderduck.  This is that duck:

Scooter The Wonderduck has been with me since 1989 or thereabouts, and has place of pride amongst my flock of rubber duckies, for he is The First Duck.  He's in remarkably good shape for being 21 years old.  He's got a black smudge on the right side of his chest from falling off a U-Haul's dashboard, and his color has faded a little bit, but he's still a grand example of the species Anatidae Crocinus.  And tonight, my friends, he would like to introduce you to those who have come after him: Wonderduck's Flock.

Easter 2010

Beautiful day outside, a perfect day for some of my Easter duckies to go out and play in the field behind Pond Central.  When we got out there, we discovered there was a group of Easter Bunny Peeps that had the same idea, and they were more than happy to join in the photoshoot!

It was great!

And then I discovered something I didn't know about rubber duckies...

Yup... It's Spring All Over The Place

It's time to admit that Spring has come to The Pond.  Take a look:

It's raining.

Okay, yes it's only 36 degrees outside, and yes there's still plenty of snow on the ground, and no there's no sign of leaves, buds or any other sign of impending rebirth on the trees, but it's raining.  If it's raining, that means it isn't snowing.  Must mean it's Spring.

Hey, at this time of year around here, you grasp at any straw you can get your hands on.

If you're single, just ignore the "holiday" and watch the Daytona 500 or the Olympics.  If you're not single, then good luck!

The Twelfth Day of Duckmas 2009

We wish you a Merry Duckmas
We wish you a Merry Duckmas
We wish you a Merry Duckmas
And a quacky New Year!

Good tidings we bring to you and your flock
Good tidings for Duckmas
And a quacky New Year!

Oh bring us some tasty rye bread
Oh bring us some tasty rye bread
Oh bring us some tasty rye bread
So we can nibble all year!

For The Pond's readers we have just one wish
Please have a Merry Duckmas
And for the rye bread, we don't need us a dish!

We wish you a Merry Duckmas
We wish you a Merry Duckmas
We wish you a Merry Duckmas
And a quacky New Year!

The Ninth Day of Duckmas 2009

I attracted a little bit of attention while I took this shot, I'm afraid.  Security attention, to be exact.  See, this particular mall was the one where a dumb bumbler had planned to set off hand grenades during christmas rush three years ago, and I guess they're a little shy about the whole "people taking photographs" thing.

The security guy whipped out his iPhone, took a look at The Pond (and last year's 12 Days of Duckmas), then let me finish taking the pictures.

There were also three generations of women from one family shopping that stopped and coo'd over the duckies, so that was fun... at this point, I'd like to say hello to the Trotten family (I hope I got that right)!

Ph.Duck and I are returning to Duckford tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting.

The Sixth Day of Duckmas 2009

Ducks... at... niiiiiiiiiiight!

Amazing what a digital camera set to a 4 second exposure and a 10-LED flashlight can do...

I really like the concept of the picture; too bad half of the lights on the tree were off.  I've been doing test shots for this one for the past three days.  Nice to see that all the planning paid off.

Later tonight I'm heading to New Mexico until the 23rd, but the 12 Days of Duckmas will continue uninterrupted!

The Fifth Day of Duckmas 2009

Say it with me now: "Four wingsFour freakin' wings!"

The picture of Angel that I used last year was easily my favorite, and this one doesn't measure up to that one.  It was actually my fallback photo, in case the planned one failed... which it did.  If you'd like to see an example, click "more"...
